This research-grade small molecule is the most abundant and biologically active catechin polyphenol isolated from green tea (Camellia sinensis) leaves. Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as 100 mg of off-white to pale yellow powder in a single-use vial, (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is intended for research use only across cell biology, biochemistry, and pharmacology workflows.

EGCG modulates multiple cellular signaling cascades, including PI3K/Akt, MAPK/ERK, and Wnt/β-catenin pathways, and is widely used to study apoptosis, oxidative stress, inflammation, angiogenesis, and epigenetic regulation. In stem cell research it is employed to influence self-renewal and lineage commitment of pluripotent and mesenchymal cultures, and in cancer research as a tool compound for investigating proliferation, metastasis, and chemosensitization.

The compound has a molecular weight of 458.4 g/mol and a CAS identifier of 989-51-5. Store the vial tightly sealed at -20°C, protected from light and moisture, and equilibrate to room temperature before opening to prevent condensation. Working stocks are commonly prepared in sterile dimethyl sulfoxide or ultrapure water and added to cell culture media at micromolar concentrations; aliquots should be made to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles and preserve activity across the product's shelf life.
