Specimen collection and transport is the first critical step in molecular infectious disease diagnostics, and the eNAT system from QIAGEN delivers a validated stabilization medium for clinical samples destined for downstream nucleic acid testing.

The kit ships as a pack of 300 screw-cap tubes pre-filled with a guanidine-thiocyanate based buffer that lyses microorganisms on contact, inactivates infectious agents including enveloped viruses, and preserves both DNA and RNA at room temperature. Specimens commonly collected include nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, and nasal swabs as well as sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage, urine, and stool, supporting respiratory pathogen screening, sexually transmitted infection testing, and gastrointestinal disease workups.

Material preserved in the medium is compatible with major automated extraction platforms and with manual silica-column or magnetic-bead purification methods used as a front end for PCR, RT-PCR, sequencing, and microarray workflows. Tubes are stored and shipped at room temperature with a multi-year shelf life when unopened, removing the cold-chain burden for remote collection sites and field outbreak response.
