DNeasy UltraClean Microbial Kit (250)

A microbial DNA isolation kit from QIAGEN is designed for the isolation of high-quality genomic DNA from microorganisms, with bacterial and fungal spores having been tested successfully. The kit uses a bead-beating approach: microbial cells are resuspended in a bead solution and added to PowerBead Tubes containing specialized beads, then lysed by a combination of heat, detergent, and mechanical force generated using a Vortex Adapter on a standard vortex. Released DNA binds to a silica spin filter (MB Spin Column), is washed, and is eluted in DNA-free Tris buffer (Solution EB).

Reagents and components can be stored at room temperature (15–25 °C) until the expiration date printed on the box label. The kit is intended for molecular biology applications and is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of a disease. Each lot is tested against predetermined specifications under QIAGEN's ISO-certified Quality Management System. A vacuum-based protocol is offered for faster processing without centrifugation for the DNA-binding and column-washing steps, using a manifold that processes up to 24 MB Spin Column preps at a time. Reagents supplied include PowerBead Solution, Solution SL, Solution IRS, Solution SB, Solution CB, and Solution EB, along with PowerBead Tubes (Garnet), MB Spin Columns, and Collection Tubes.

Safety notes: Solution CB contains alcohol and is flammable. PowerBead Solution and Solution SB contain guanidine salts and must not be combined with bleach. A microcentrifuge capable of 10,000 x g, a pipettor, a vortex, and the Vortex Adapter are required user-supplied equipment.
