DNeasy PowerWater Sterivex Kit (50)

A DNA isolation kit from QIAGEN enables extraction of genomic DNA from sealed Sterivex filter units without the need for enzymes or hazardous organic chemicals. A novel filter membrane treatment releases microbes from the filter units without extensive incubation times or having to cut open the plastic casing that holds the membrane.

The kit incorporates patented Inhibitor Removal Technology® (IRT), designed to deliver high quality DNA even from water samples containing heavy amounts of contaminants. A specially designed silica binding column and column extender allow one-step addition of the full sample lysate (4.5 ml), with elution in a 50–100 µl volume. Typical filtered water volumes are 1–10 L, depending on microbial load and turbidity.

After the membrane treatment, lysis buffer is added and the lysate is processed through additional mechanical lysis in a 5 ml bead beating tube. Following protein and inhibitor removal steps, total genomic DNA is captured on a silica binding column under vacuum, then washed and eluted for downstream applications including PCR and qPCR. The kit is intended for research use only and is not for diagnostic use.
