Designed for the isolation of genomic DNA from filtered water samples including turbid water, this QIAGEN kit uses Inhibitor Removal Technology to remove salts, metals, humic substances and other organic materials. It extracts high-quality DNA even from water containing high levels of contaminants, and supports ocean, fresh, brackish, ground and waste water samples.

The kit uses silica spin filter tubes with bead-beating processing in 20 minutes per prep, with a binding capacity of up to 20 µg per prep and a final elution volume of 100 µl. Viable DNA can be recovered from common filter membrane types, including 0.45 µm and 0.22 µm filter funnels. The kit is stored at room temperature (15–30 °C), and purified DNA is suitable for qPCR, Sanger sequencing and next-generation sequencing. Purification can be automated on the QIAcube Connect, and the kit was previously sold by MO BIO as the PowerWater DNA Isolation Kit.
