DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit (50)

QIAGEN's DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit is a leading soil DNA extraction solution designed for high yields of pure microbial DNA from soil types including compost, clay, and top soil. The kit features a novel bead tube and optimized chemistry for more efficient lysis of soil bacteria and fungi, and incorporates streamlined Inhibitor Removal Technology (IRT) to remove challenging inhibitors commonly found in soil and environmental samples in less time.

According to the manufacturer, the kit delivers up to 8-fold higher DNA yields than the first-generation DNeasy PowerSoil Kit and competitors across all soil types examined. It was the only method showing 260/280 ratios near 1.8 for all soil types along with the highest 260/230 ratios, and produced samples with no inhibition in PCR. Sequencing results reveal higher alpha diversity as measured by observed operational taxonomic units (OTUs) compared to other tested methods. DNA extraction can be automated on the QIAcube Connect, and UCP MinElute columns are available that elute in volumes as low as 20 µL.

The kit is a spin-column-based mini-prep system with a standard elution volume of 100 µL and a processing time of 30-60 minutes.
