DNeasy PowerLyzer PowerSoil Kit (50)

Designed for bead beating–based microbial DNA extraction from tough soil samples, the QIAGEN DNeasy PowerLyzer PowerSoil Kit supports metagenomics and sequencing workflows. The kit uses novel Inhibitor Removal Technology to remove PCR inhibitors from environmental samples, including difficult matrices with high humic acid content such as compost, sediment and manure.

The kit includes 0.1 mm glass bead tubes optimized for use with bead-based homogenizers, particularly the PowerLyzer 24 Homogenizer. Each prep processes a 0.25 g sample in approximately 30 minutes, with a binding capacity of up to 20 µg of DNA. The silica spin filter tube format supports a throughput of 1–24 samples per run, and all reagents can be stored at room temperature (15–30°C). Compatible sample types include processed soil, fecal matter, water, food, insects and swabs containing PCR inhibitors.

Purified microbial genomic DNA is suitable for successful qPCR amplification. Detection has been demonstrated for Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus anthracis), fungi such as yeasts and molds, algae, actinomycetes including Streptomyces, and nematodes. The isolated genetic material is ready for downstream applications such as next-generation sequencing, and the workflow can be automated on the QIAcube Connect. The kit was formerly sold by MO BIO as the PowerLyzer PowerSoil DNA Kit and is intended for research use only.
