DNeasy PowerLyzer PowerSoil Kit (100)

From QIAGEN, the DNeasy PowerLyzer PowerSoil Kit enables bead beating for microbial DNA extraction from tough soil samples, making it well suited for metagenomics and sequencing workflows. Using novel Inhibitor Removal Technology, the kit extracts microbial DNA from a wide range of environmental samples, including those with a high humic acid content, delivering highly pure DNA suitable for successful qPCR amplification.

The kit accepts processed soil, fecal, water, food, insects and swab samples containing PCR inhibitors, and uses bead beating with 0.1 mm glass beads in silica spin filter tubes. Each prep uses a 0.25 g sample size and has a binding capacity of up to 20 µg per prep. The protocol supports a throughput of 1–24 samples, with a time per run of 30 minutes, and reagents are stored at room temperature (15–30°C).

The bead tubes included are optimized for bead-based homogenizers, particularly the PowerLyzer 24 Homogenizer. Microbial genomic DNA can be purified from compost, sediment, manure and other environmental samples, and organisms detected from purified material include Gram (+/-) bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus anthracis, fungi such as yeasts and molds, algae, actinomycetes such as Streptomyces, and nematodes. Isolated genetic material is ready for downstream applications including next-generation sequencing, and the workflow can also be automated on the QIAcube Connect. This kit was formerly sold by MO BIO as the PowerLyzer PowerSoil DNA Kit.
