CryoStor CS2

A serum-free, defined cryopreservation medium from STEMCELL Technologies, CryoStor CS2 is pre-formulated with 2% DMSO and a stabilizing blend of sugars, salts, and antioxidants to protect mammalian cells during ultra-low temperature storage. The ready-to-use 100 mL bottle format eliminates the need for in-house cocktail preparation, supporting consistent post-thaw viability across cell therapy, regenerative medicine, and basic in vitro research workflows. Operators resuspend cell pellets in the medium, transfer to cryogenic vials, and freeze at a controlled rate of approximately 1°C per minute before moving to liquid nitrogen vapor phase or a -80°C mechanical freezer. Documented applications include preservation of hematopoietic progenitor cells, mesenchymal stromal cells, CAR-T lymphocytes, induced pluripotent stem cell lines, and other primary cultures, where the protective formulation reduces caspase-mediated apoptosis triggered by ice crystal formation and osmotic shock. The medium is refrigerated before use, with a shelf life supporting routine biobanking schedules. Each lot is tested for sterility, mycoplasma, and endotoxin to align with cGMP-compatible manufacturing environments, making this cryopreservation reagent suitable for translational pipelines, repository operations, and academic laboratories handling sensitive primary cell cultures.
