STEMCELL Technologies supplies a recombinant SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein carrying an N-terminal polyhistidine affinity tag, expressed in an E. coli host system and packaged at 1000 µg per vial. The full-length viral N protein, roughly 46 kDa, packages the positive-sense genomic RNA into a helical ribonucleocapsid and is the most abundantly expressed structural protein during infection. Because it is translated in E. coli, the recombinant product is unglycosylated and lacks eukaryotic post-translational modifications, leaving only the linear peptide epitopes intact for downstream binding studies.

The 6xHis tag enables direct capture on Ni-NTA or cobalt-charged IMAC resin, and supports sensitive detection with anti-His secondary antibodies on Western blot membranes. Investigators use the protein as a plate-coating antigen in ELISA serology workflows, as a positive-control band when validating patient serum reactivity by immunoblot, as a stimulation reagent for B-cell and T-cell activation assays, and as a quantitative reference standard in antigen-detection studies. For handling, the vial should be stored at -20 °C, aliquoted into single-use portions to limit repeated freeze-thaw exposure, and used only for research use only.
