Chlormethiazole (Hydrochloride), 50 mg

This small molecule from STEMCELL Technologies is a γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor agonist with neuroprotective and sedative properties. It is supplied at 50 mg with a purity of ≥ 98% as a crystalline solid. The compound, also known by the alternative name Clomethiazole, has the chemical formula C6H8ClNS • HCl and a molecular weight of 198.1 g/mol (CAS Number: 6001-74-7).

Chlormethiazole increases chloride uptake in cortical synaptoneurosomes in a dose-dependent manner, with an EC50 = 48 μM. It has been shown to restore synaptic function and correct memory defects in mouse models of neurodegeneration, and to protect against neuronal death in the hippocampus in gerbils. The product is stable at -20°C for 12 months from date of receipt when stored with a desiccant and protected from prolonged exposure to light. Reported solubility is ≤ 50 mM in PBS (pH 7.2), ≤ 150 mM in DMSO, and ≤ 100 mM in absolute ethanol. For research use only.
