Description

A diaminopyrimidine small molecule supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as the hydrochloride salt, this compound induces cardiomyogenesis in mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells.

The chemical is identified as 2-((2-((4-methoxyphenyl)amino)pyrimidin-4-yl)amino)ethan-1-ol hydrochloride (CAS 671225-39-1) with the molecular formula C₁₃H₁₆N₄O₂ · HCl and a molecular weight of 296.8 g/mol. It is provided as a crystalline solid at a purity of ≥ 97%. Reported solubility values include DMF at 25 mg/mL, DMSO at 20 mg/mL, ethanol at 1 mg/mL, and PBS (pH 7.2) at 10 mg/mL. The product is stable at -20 °C as supplied, should be protected from prolonged exposure to light, and remains stable for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored as recommended. As an example preparation, a 10 mM stock in PBS can be made by resuspending 1 mg in 337 µL of PBS (pH 7.2). Recommended maximum stock concentrations are PBS (pH 7.2) ≤ 30 mM, DMSO ≤ 65 mM, and absolute ethanol ≤ 3 mM, with final DMSO concentration kept below 0.1% in cell culture due to potential cell toxicity.

Published applications include induction of trans-differentiation of mouse CD34⁺K15⁺ hair bulge progenitor cells into cardiomyocyte-like cells (Yau et al., 2011), upregulation of cardiomyogenic function in C2C12 skeletal myoblasts and mouse A5 cardiovascular progenitor cells (Mike et al., 2014), and induction of myosin heavy chain (MHC)-positive cardiomyocytes from mouse ES cells (Wu et al., 2004). The product is for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses. The compound is classified as hazardous: it is a Category 2 skin irritant and Category 2A eye irritant, and may cause respiratory irritation. It should be handled with protective gloves, eye protection, and adequate ventilation, and is incompatible with strong acids and strong oxidizing agents.
