The hormonally active form of vitamin D3, also known as 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, calcitriol binds the vitamin D receptor (VDR) with high affinity and is supplied here as a 1 mg research reagent by STEMCELL Technologies. This small-molecule preparation is typically reconstituted in absolute ethanol or DMSO before being diluted into cell culture media for in vitro applications such as osteoclast and monocyte/macrophage differentiation, VDR signaling studies, and bone metabolism research. Because the molecule is light-sensitive, the vial should be stored at -20 °C, protected from light, and aliquoted to minimize freeze-thaw cycles. Effective working concentrations generally range from 1 to 100 nM depending on cell type, endpoint, and exposure duration. STEMCELL Technologies provides this reagent for research use only, supporting workflows in hematopoietic differentiation, immunology, and skeletal biology where vitamin D pathway activity is under investigation.
