Vimentin is a 57 kDa class III intermediate filament protein expressed in cells of mesenchymal lineage, and it serves as a standard marker for distinguishing mesenchymal cells from epithelial populations. The Antibodies.com Anti-Vimentin (S55) reagent is a rabbit polyclonal primary antibody supplied unconjugated at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline with 0.05% sodium azide, pH approximately 7.2, and is packaged as a 50 µl vial sized for western blot workloads.

Characterized for western blot application, this antibody detects endogenous vimentin in lysates prepared from human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting experiments in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition research, fibroblast biology, mesenchymal stem cell characterization, and sarcoma tissue analysis. The unconjugated format lets researchers pair it with HRP, alkaline phosphatase, or fluorescently labeled secondary reagents of their choice, allowing the same primary to drive chromogenic western blot membranes or downstream immunolabeling workflows as needed.

For best results, store refrigerated between uses, protect from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the working aliquot to preserve binding activity. Sodium azide in the formulation is incompatible with some HRP-based detection chemistries, so a buffer exchange or azide inactivation step may be required before coupling the primary to those assays.
