A rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com directed against vimentin, a 57 kDa type III intermediate filament protein that maintains cytoskeletal architecture in mesenchymal cells. Raised against a synthetic peptide antigen mapping to the N-terminal head domain of vimentin around serine residue 55, the antibody is supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated immunoglobulin at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2.

Validated for Western blot on lysates from human, mouse, and rat samples, the reagent resolves its target at the expected molecular weight on reduced, denatured gels. Common research uses include tracking epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in carcinoma cell line models, profiling tumor invasion and metastatic potential, characterizing fibroblast activation in fibrotic tissue, monitoring wound healing kinetics, and following stem cell differentiation toward mesenchymal lineages. The polyclonal composition provides strong signal amplification when vimentin expression is shifting as cells undergo phenotypic reprogramming.

For best results, aliquot the vial upon first thaw and store at -20°C in a frost-free freezer to preserve activity across multiple freeze-thaw cycles. Short-term handling at refrigerated temperatures is acceptable for active aliquots. The unconjugated format gives researchers flexibility to pair the reagent with HRP, fluorophore, or biotinylated secondary antibodies of their choice.
