Raised in rabbits against the L79 region of human vimentin, this unconjugated polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is supplied as 50 µl of a 1 mg/ml stock in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2. Vimentin is a 57 kDa type III intermediate filament protein expressed in cells of mesenchymal origin, where it maintains cytoskeletal integrity. It is widely used as a marker for mesenchymal lineage, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition studies, and tumors of mesenchymal derivation including sarcomas.

The antibody has been validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples. The unconjugated format lets researchers couple it to their preferred fluorophore, biotin, or enzyme for immunofluorescence, chromogenic IHC, or immunoblotting workflows. Polyclonal reactivity across multiple vimentin epitopes is useful when probing denatured samples or when single-epitope masking is a concern, and the broad cross-reactivity supports comparative studies in rodent and human model systems.

For short-term use, refrigerate the vial; for longer storage, aliquot and freeze to limit freeze-thaw cycles of the glycerol-free PBS formulation. The 0.05% sodium azide acts as a microbial preservative, so the reagent is not appropriate for live-cell labeling protocols. Sodium azide-containing waste should be handled according to institutional safety guidelines.
