Supplied as a 50 µL aliquot in Tris-buffered saline at pH 7.4 with 1% BSA, 40% glycerol, and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative, this unconjugated mouse monoclonal IgG1 reagent from Antibodies.com targets vimentin, the ~57 kDa type III intermediate filament protein characteristic of mesenchymal cells. Its reactivity with Human, Mouse, and Rat samples makes it a versatile tool across comparative studies in cell biology and disease models.

Vimentin expression is a hallmark of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in cancer research, where cells undergoing EMT lose E-cadherin and acquire vimentin as they adopt invasive, migratory phenotypes. The antibody is therefore widely used in carcinoma studies to assess mesenchymal phenotype, and in tumor pathology it supports the identification of mesenchymal-origin sarcomas and the differential diagnosis of undifferentiated neoplasms.

Beyond oncology, the reagent serves studies of wound healing, fibrosis, and mesenchymal stem cell characterization, where cytoskeletal remodeling and fibroblast activation are tracked across time points and treatment conditions. Recommended storage is at -20 °C in working aliquots to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and it is validated for western blot detection of the expected ~57 kDa band, immunohistochemistry on paraffin and frozen sections, immunocytochemistry on cultured cells, and flow cytometry.
