Anti-VHL Antibody

This polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumor suppressor protein, supplied as 100 µl of unconjugated rabbit antiserum validated for western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence workflows across human, mouse, and rat samples.

VHL functions as the substrate-recognition component of an E3 ubiquitin ligase complex that includes Elongin B, Elongin C, Cullin 2, and Rbx1. Under normoxic conditions, the complex hydroxylates HIF-alpha transcription factors, marking them for proteasomal degradation. Loss of functional VHL disrupts oxygen-sensing signaling and drives accumulation of HIF targets such as VEGF, EPO, and GLUT1, a pathway implicated in clear cell renal cell carcinogenesis, CNS and retinal hemangioblastomas, pheochromocytomas, and pancreatic neuroendocrine lesions characteristic of von Hippel-Lindau disease.

The reagent is validated for detection of endogenous VHL in whole-cell lysates, fixed tissue sections, and cultured cells. The polyclonal format offers broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, which can be advantageous when probing for truncation mutants or low-expression samples.
