Raised in rabbit and supplied by Antibodies.com as a 100 µl unconjugated vial, this polyclonal reagent binds VDAC1, the voltage-dependent anion channel that forms the major beta-barrel pore of the outer mitochondrial membrane. Verified reactivity against the human, mouse, and rat proteins supports parallel western blot and ELISA comparisons across standard cell lines and rodent tissue models without switching primaries. VDAC1 is the most abundant outer-membrane porin; it conducts metabolites, ions, and small solutes across the organelle boundary, anchors cytosolic hexokinase to the mitochondrial surface, and participates in outer-membrane permeabilization during apoptotic signaling.

Researchers deploy the antibody to confirm enrichment of mitochondria in differential centrifugation or immunocapture fractions, to normalize respiratory chain content in tissue lysates, and to track outer-membrane integrity under hypoxia, oxidative stress, or drug-induced cell death. The polyclonal format widens epitope coverage so that partial degradation or post-translational modification of the target is less likely to abolish binding, and the unconjugated format allows pairing with HRP, biotin, or fluorophore-labeled anti-rabbit secondaries chosen by the user. VDAC1 migrates near 31–37 kDa on SDS-PAGE, making actin, tubulin, or COX IV practical co-loading controls when whole-cell lysates are compared with isolated mitochondrial pellets.

The reagent is intended for research use only. It should be stored refrigerated and aliquoted on arrival to limit freeze-thaw cycles and preserve activity across multiple experiments, with secondary detection chemistry selected to match the chosen application.
