From Antibodies.com, this polyclonal rabbit IgG reagent targets VDAC1 (voltage-dependent anion channel 1), a ~32 kDa beta-barrel porin that forms the major metabolite-permeable channel of the mitochondrial outer membrane and is the most abundant of three mammalian voltage-dependent anion channel isoforms. Each vial contains 200 µl of unconjugated antiserum and supports Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry workflows. In Western blot on whole-cell or mitochondrial lysates, the antibody reveals full-length VDAC1 in the 32-37 kDa range, making the reagent a broadly used loading control for mitochondrial fractions alongside reference markers such as TOM20 and COX IV. In immunohistochemistry, the antibody produces a characteristic punctate cytoplasmic signal that delineates mitochondrial outer-membrane compartments in formalin-fixed tissue sections; citrate-buffer antigen retrieval at pH 6.0 is typically used to recover the epitope. Flow cytometry with this reagent enables quantification of relative mitochondrial mass across lymphoid lines and primary cells. The antibody has been validated for reactivity on human and mouse samples, supporting research into mitochondrial metabolism, Bcl-2 family-regulated apoptosis at the outer membrane, calcium flux into the intermembrane space, and porin-mediated ATP/ADP transport in cancer and neurodegeneration models. Researchers pair the primary reagent with rabbit-compatible HRP or fluorescent secondary antibodies depending on the readout.
