Raised in rabbit against the human UPF1 target, this unconjugated polyclonal antibody is supplied by Antibodies.com as a 100 µl liquid aliquot for research use only. UPF1 (also known as RENT1 or smg-2) is an ATP-dependent RNA helicase that acts as the central effector of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay, a translation-dependent quality-control pathway that clears transcripts bearing premature termination codons. The same helicase has been linked to telomere replication, the DNA damage response, and staufen-mediated mRNA decay, which broadens the experimental contexts in which the reagent is informative.

The antibody is provided unconjugated, so laboratories can pair it with HRP-, biotin-, or fluorophore-conjugated secondary reagents as their assay requires. Validated applications include western blot analysis of whole-cell and tissue lysates, immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections after antigen retrieval, and immunofluorescence staining of cultured cells. Recommended storage is at -20 °C, with working aliquots prepared to limit freeze-thaw cycling and to preserve antibody activity over multiple experiments.

Investigators studying mRNA surveillance, the unfolded protein response, or replication stress often combine this reagent with antibodies against UPF2, UPF3B, SMG1, and phospho-UPF1 to map NMD complex assembly and activation state in their system of interest.
