Uromodulin (UMOD), also called Tamm-Horsfall protein, is the most abundant glycoprotein excreted in normal urine and is synthesized almost exclusively by epithelial cells lining the thick ascending limb of Henle's loop in the kidney. This unconjugated rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com is raised against the UMOD target and is supplied as a 100 µl liquid volume for western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human, mouse, and rat samples.

UMOD is clinically relevant because coding variants cause autosomal dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease (ADTKD-UMOD), and common polymorphisms have been associated through GWAS with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and gout. Researchers therefore use the antibody to probe tubular function, salt-handling pathways, and the integrity of the apical membrane in renal tissue, where the protein is initially GPI-anchored on the luminal side of tubular epithelium before being cleaved and released into the urine.

The reagent is polyclonal, unconjugated, and rabbit-hosted, validated for WB and IHC, and intended for research use only. To minimize freeze-thaw loss, store the aliquot refrigerated and handle on ice during setup.
