Raised in rabbit against the catalytic enzyme UGCG (UDP-glucose ceramide glucosyltransferase), this polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the Golgi-membrane protein that performs the committed step of glycosphingolipid biosynthesis, transferring glucose from UDP-glucose onto ceramide to yield glucosylceramide, the precursor pool for gangliosides and most higher-order glycosphingolipids. The reagent is supplied as a 50 µl aliquot in unconjugated IgG format and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human, mouse, and rat samples.

UGCG, also known as glucosylceramide synthase (GCS) or ceramide glucosyltransferase, sits at a branch point in sphingolipid metabolism and is of broad interest in fields including multidrug-resistance oncology, Gaucher disease and other lysosomal storage disorders, neurobiology of glycosphingolipid accumulation, and skin-barrier research, where stratum-corneum glucosylceramides are critical for epidermal permeability function. Investigators studying ceramide flux, ganglioside pathway activity, or stress-induced sphingolipid remodelling can use the antibody to assess endogenous protein expression in tissue cryosections, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections, and cell or tissue lysates.

As a polyclonal reagent, it offers broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal alternative, helping detection across orthologues with minor sequence variation. The unconjugated format allows flexible pairing with secondary antibodies conjugated to HRP, fluorophores, or biotin to suit chromogenic, immunofluorescent, or amplified detection chemistries. Recommended handling: store refrigerated at 2 to 8 degrees C, protect from light, and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles by aliquoting on first thaw. For research use only.
