This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com targets UBE1 (also called UBA1), the E1 ubiquitin-activating enzyme that catalyzes the first step of the ubiquitin conjugation cascade by forming a thioester bond with ubiquitin in an ATP-dependent manner. The unconjugated antibody is supplied as a 100 µl aliquot and is validated for Western blot and immunofluorescence applications on human samples, making it a practical reagent for laboratories studying ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis, proteasome-dependent turnover, and cellular protein quality control. UBE1 is the essential, single-copy E1 enzyme in humans and is required for charging the E2 carriers that subsequently transfer ubiquitin onto lysine residues of substrate proteins. Mutations in the UBA1 gene are linked to X-linked spinal muscular atrophy type 2 (XL-SMA2), and acquired somatic UBA1 mutations are now recognized as the molecular cause of the autoinflammatory adult-onset syndrome VEXAS, giving this target strong relevance in neuromuscular disease research, hematology, and innate immunity studies. Investigators examining DNA damage response, cell cycle progression, stress signaling, or neurodegenerative protein aggregation can use this antibody to characterize endogenous UBE1 expression, subcellular distribution, and post-translational state across human cell lines and primary tissues.
