This rabbit monoclonal antibody targets the Translocator Protein (TSPO), an 18 kDa outer mitochondrial membrane protein originally characterized as the peripheral benzodiazepine receptor. Distributed as a 200 µl unconjugated IgG preparation, the reagent is applied in western blot, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation workflows across human and mouse samples and is supplied by Antibodies.com.

TSPO sits in the outer mitochondrial membrane and participates in the translocation of cholesterol from the outer to the inner mitochondrial leaflet, the rate-limiting step in steroidogenesis. Beyond steroid-producing tissues, TSPO expression rises sharply in activated microglia, which has made it a widely used imaging and histological biomarker for neuroinflammation in Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and preclinical models of traumatic brain injury and stroke.

Researchers use this antibody to characterize microglial activation in fixed brain sections by immunohistochemistry, resolve the monomeric ~18 kDa band in membrane fractions by western blot, follow subcellular mitochondrial distribution by immunofluorescence, and pull down interacting partners through its conserved cholesterol-binding pocket. The unconjugated format leaves labeling choices open, supporting flexible pairing with secondary antibodies, fluorophores, or enzymatic reporters.
