TOMM20 (Translocase of Outer Mitochondrial Membrane 20) is a ~20 kDa subunit of the mitochondrial protein import machinery, embedded in the outer mitochondrial membrane where it functions as the central receptor for virtually all nucleus-encoded mitochondrial precursor proteins. Because it is highly and uniformly expressed across tissues, it is widely adopted as a mitochondrial loading control in immunoblotting and as a faithful stain for mitochondrial networks in fixed cells and tissue sections. This unconjugated recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibody, supplied by Antibodies.com as a 100 µl vial in TBS with 1% BSA, 40% glycerol, and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative, targets the human, mouse, and rat antigen and is validated for western blot, immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry.

Practical uses include confirming mitochondrial enrichment during subcellular fractionation, verifying preservation of mitochondrial morphology in cell lines after drug or genetic perturbation, quantifying mitophagy by colocalization with autophagosomal markers, and supporting studies of mitochondrial biogenesis in metabolic, neurodegenerative, and cancer research. The recombinant monoclonality provides lot-to-lot consistency over traditional polyclonal reagents, and the unconjugated format leaves the choice of fluorophore, enzyme, or biotin label to the end user, which is convenient when designing multiplex ICC/IF panels that pair TOMM20 with channel-specific secondary antibodies. The reagent is research use only and intended for in vitro laboratory work.

For best results, store the vial frozen at -20°C for long-term preservation; aliquot upon first thaw to limit freeze-thaw cycles and protect binding activity. Sodium azide is included as a preservative, so the reagent is ready for direct dilution into staining buffers and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
