Transketolase (TKT) is a thiamine-dependent enzyme central to the non-oxidative branch of the pentose phosphate pathway, where it transfers two-carbon ketol units between sugar phosphates to interconnect glycolysis with nucleotide and NADPH precursor biosynthesis. This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com was raised against TKT and binds the endogenous protein in human, mouse, and rat samples, making it a useful reagent for cross-species expression studies of carbohydrate metabolism.

Validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry, the unconjugated Ig fraction is supplied as 100 µl of liquid at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant. The polyclonal format improves the likelihood of recognising multiple epitopes on the mature ~68 kDa transketolase subunit, which is helpful when probing samples where post-translational modification or partial proteolysis may obscure a single linear epitope. Researchers studying thiamine deficiency models, transketolase activity in cancer metabolism, or TKT locus variants linked to neurodevelopmental syndromes have used comparable reagents in similar workflows.

The reagent is intended for research use only and should be handled with appropriate biosafety precautions given the sodium azide preservative. Aliquoting upon first use minimises repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the glycerol stock and preserves antibody activity for ongoing blotting and staining experiments.
