Anti-TFAM Antibody

A rabbit polyclonal primary antibody targeting TFAM, supplied by Antibodies.com for Western blot (WB) applications. The unconjugated antibody is raised in rabbit and is reactive with Human, Mouse, and Rat samples. It is formulated at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.05% sodium azide, at approximately pH 7.3.

TFAM is also known by several synonyms, including mtTFA, mtTF1, TCF6, TCF6L2 and tsHMG. It is a nuclear-encoded gene product that is imported into the mitochondria, where it is required for many aspects of mitochondrial biogenesis, including the replication and transcription of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). In mouse, a testis-specific mtTFA isoform lacks the mitochondrial targeting sequence and is found in the nucleus rather than in mitochondria, localising primarily to the nuclei of elongated spermatids, where it may help regulate gene expression of the haploid male genome. During both mouse and human spermatogenesis, mtTFA protein levels and mtDNA copy number are reduced, a feature that may contribute to preventing paternal mtDNA transmission. TFAM has additionally been linked to a human mitochondrial disorder characterised by ocular myopathy, exercise intolerance and muscle wasting.
