The Antibodies.com TATA-binding protein (TBP) reagent is a rabbit polyclonal antibody supplied at 100 µl and validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows. TBP functions as a general transcription factor that binds the TATA box element within eukaryotic promoters, anchoring the pre-initiation complex responsible for RNA polymerase II transcription.

This unconjugated primary antibody recognizes endogenous human TBP and is commonly applied to characterize transcription factor expression across cell lysates and fixed tissue sections. In Western blot, the antibody produces a band near the expected molecular weight of TBP (~38 kDa), supporting its use as a reference marker for basal transcription machinery. For immunohistochemistry, it yields nuclear staining consistent with TBP's role at the promoter level.

The polyclonal format offers broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal reagent, increasing the likelihood of capturing the target across denaturing gel conditions and formalin-fixed samples. Researchers rely on this antibody when studying promoter occupancy, RNA polymerase II recruitment, and transcriptional dysregulation in human disease models. The reagent ships in a vial ready for dilution into standard assay buffers and is intended for research use only.
