Raised in rabbit as a polyclonal reagent, this unconjugated antibody from Antibodies.com targets the Tau protein, a microtubule-associated phosphoprotein most abundantly expressed in central nervous system neurons. The reagent is supplied at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, and ships as a 100 µl volume for direct dilution into western blot workflows.

Tau is best known for stabilizing axonal microtubules in neurons, and is a hallmark pathological antigen in Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies where aberrant hyperphosphorylation drives the formation of neurofibrillary tangles. This primary antibody is validated for detection of Tau in human, mouse, and rat samples via western blot, supporting cross-species comparative work on Tau isoform expression and post-translational modification across model systems.

As an unconjugated reagent, it integrates into standard immunoblotting pipelines: dilute into blocking buffer, incubate with transferred membrane, and pair with an HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondary antibody for chemiluminescent or fluorescent readout. Sodium azide in the buffer formulation helps deter microbial contamination during repeated bench use of the same vial.
