Raised in rabbit, this polyclonal antibody targets the microtubule-associated protein Tau (MAPT) and is supplied by Antibodies.com as 100 µl of a 1 mg/ml liquid stock in phosphate-buffered saline (pH ~7.2) with 0.05% sodium azide as a microbial preservative. The reagent is unconjugated, allowing direct labeling with HRP, biotin, fluorophores, or agarose beads to suit specific western blot workflows.

Validated for western blot on human, mouse, and rat samples, the antibody detects endogenous Tau in brain-tissue homogenates, primary neuron cultures, and Tau-transfected cell lines. Because the polyclonal response spans multiple epitopes, the reagent recognizes full-length isoforms alongside lower-molecular-weight cleavage fragments separated by SDS-PAGE, including 3R and 4R Tau variants relevant to Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal lobar degeneration, and chronic traumatic encephalopathy research.

Working dilutions of 1:500 to 1:2,000 in 5% non-fat milk or BSA blocking buffer typically yield clean Tau bands at the expected 50–80 kDa region, with reduced background when TBST washes are extended. The azide-containing buffer is compatible with most immunoblotting protocols and supports refrigerated storage between uses; for long-term storage, aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles and protect the stock from light to preserve antibody integrity. Researchers using this reagent for downstream conjugation or live-cell work should remove sodium azide by dialysis or a desalting column before coupling.
