Survivin (also known as BIRC5) is a 16.5 kDa member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family that is over-expressed in virtually every human tumour type yet largely absent from terminally differentiated adult tissue. This unconjugated mouse monoclonal antibody from Antibodies.com recognises an epitope on Survivin and has been validated for Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows on human and rat samples, making it a practical reagent for apoptosis, oncology and cell-cycle research where Survivin expression is used as a marker of proliferating or transformed cells.

Supplied as 100 ul of liquid in a vial, the reagent can be diluted for immunoblotting of whole-cell lysates or applied to formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Because Survivin accumulates in the cytoplasm and, in dividing cells, at the mitotic spindle, the antibody is frequently used to score proliferative indices in tumour sections or to follow IAP-family signalling in cultured cell lines. Researchers should run appropriate positive controls such as HeLa or other cancer cell lysates for WB and Survivin-positive tumour sections for IHC, together with a species-matched isotype control, since the host is mouse and the detection reagent must therefore be an anti-mouse secondary. For research use only.
