Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier 2 (SUMO2) is an approximately 12 kDa ubiquitin-like protein that is covalently attached to lysine residues on substrate proteins during SUMOylation, a reversible post-translational modification involved in DNA damage signaling, oxidative and thermal stress responses, cell cycle progression, and transcriptional regulation. The Antibodies.com Anti-SUMO2 reagent is a rabbit polyclonal, unconjugated IgG preparation supplied as 200 µl, validated for Western blot (WB) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) applications. Cross-reactivity has been confirmed in Human, Mouse, and Rat samples, supporting comparative work across standard mammalian model systems. Because SUMO2 forms poly-SUMO chains that are recognized by RNF4-family SUMO-targeted ubiquitin ligases and can be detected both as the free modifier and in conjugated form on substrates, a polyclonal reagent provides broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal, increasing the chance of capturing SUMO2-modified targets regardless of the attachment site. The unconjugated format allows users to pair the reagent with their preferred secondary antibody, fluorophore, or enzyme system and to optimize detection in chromogenic IHC, fluorescence imaging, or chemiluminescent WB. Aliquot upon first thaw and store at -20 °C, avoiding repeated freeze-thaw cycles to preserve activity. Researchers investigating stress-induced SUMOylation, PML nuclear body dynamics, and SUMO-dependent ubiquitylation will find this reagent useful for probing both endogenous and overexpressed SUMO2 levels in cell lysates and tissue sections.
