Stra8 is a cytoplasmic signaling factor that controls the commitment of mammalian germ cells to meiosis. It is expressed in gonocytes and preleptotene spermatocytes of the testis, and in equivalent oocyte precursors of the fetal ovary, where retinoic acid signaling drives its induction. Loss or dysregulation of Stra8 is associated with arrest at the mitotic-to-meiotic transition and with infertility phenotypes in both sexes, which has made it a widely used marker for tracking meiotic entry in vitro and in vivo.

This unconjugated reagent has been validated for Western blot and ELISA on human samples, with reactivity toward the human Stra8 target.
