The Antibodies.com rabbit polyclonal reagent recognizes ST6GAL1, a Golgi-resident sialyltransferase that transfers sialic acid in α2,6 linkage onto terminal galactose residues on N-glycoproteins. Researchers studying aberrant cell-surface sialylation in epithelial cancers, including breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and colorectal tumors, use this reagent to probe ST6GAL1 expression in tissue sections and lysates, where upregulation has been linked to altered integrin signaling, increased tumor cell migration, and modulation of Fc-mediated immune effector functions. The unconjugated antibody is supplied as a 100 µl liquid aliquot and is validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human and mouse samples, making it suitable for both protein-level confirmation in cell-line panels and localization studies in formalin-fixed tissue. Polyclonal specificity provides broader epitope coverage than monoclonal alternatives, which can be useful when probing proteolytic fragments or splice variants of the enzyme. For Western blot, the reagent can be applied to whole-cell lysates from cultured human cancer cell lines, where a band near the predicted molecular weight supports detection of the full-length transferase. In IHC, staining of human carcinoma tissue arrays reveals Golgi-pattern reactivity in tumor epithelium relative to matched normal tissue. Aliquot upon receipt and store refrigerated; for longer-term storage, freeze the antibody and limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles. For research use only.
