Raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated polyclonal reagent, this Antibodies.com primary antibody recognizes ST3GAL3, a type II transmembrane Golgi-resident sialyltransferase that transfers sialic acid in alpha-2,3 linkage onto galactose-terminating glycoconjugates. ST3GAL3 contributes to the biosynthesis of sialyl-Lewis a and related carbohydrate epitopes, and changes in its expression have been documented in pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers, in inflammatory contexts, and in neurodevelopmental disorders linked to ST3GAL3 loss-of-function mutations.
The reagent is provided at 1 mg/ml in PBS containing 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol, and ships as a 100 µl volume suitable for multiple experiments. The 50% glycerol formulation supports storage at -20°C with minimal freeze-thaw degradation, and the unconjugated format allows researchers to pair the antibody with their own secondary detection reagents for Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows using human, mouse, and rat samples.
For Western blot applications, the antibody enables detection of endogenous ST3GAL3 in cell lysates and tissue homogenates, where it labels a band consistent with the expected molecular weight of the full-length enzyme. In immunohistochemistry, the reagent is applied to formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections to localize ST3GAL3 expression across developmental stages, normal tissues, and disease models. Reactivity across three species makes the antibody useful for comparative studies spanning patient-derived samples, cultured cell lines, and rodent model tissues.
As a research-use-only reagent for laboratories studying glycosylation, the antibody supports investigations into sialyltransferase regulation, aberrant cell-surface sialylation in tumor biology, glycan remodeling in immune signaling, and ST3GAL3's emerging role in neuronal development and function.
