This polyclonal antibody targets SPTLC1, the catalytic subunit of serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT), which catalyzes the condensation of L-serine and palmitoyl-CoA in the first, rate-limiting step of de novo sphingolipid biosynthesis. SPTLC1 forms a heterodimer with SPTLC2 or SPTLC3 at the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, and mutations in SPTLC1 are linked to hereditary sensory neuropathy type 1 (HSAN1), a dominantly inherited peripheral nerve disorder.

Raised in rabbit and supplied unconjugated at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant, each vial contains 100 µl of reagent. The polyclonal format gives broader epitope coverage across the ~53 kDa SPTLC1 protein, which is useful when probing full-length expression under varying lysate conditions.

Validated applications include Western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) on human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting cross-species studies of sphingolipid metabolism, endoplasmic reticulum membrane biology, and HSAN1 neuropathy models. Provided by Antibodies.com, this reagent enables research into ceramide and sphingolipid signaling pathways implicated in neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, and dermatological conditions such as ichthyosis.
