SMYD2 (SET and MYND domain-containing protein 2) is a lysine methyltransferase that catalyzes methylation of histone H3 at lysine 36 and a range of non-histone substrates including p53, retinoblastoma protein (RB1), HSP90, and estrogen receptor alpha. Altered SMYD2 activity has been reported in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, and other tumor contexts, positioning the enzyme as a focus of chromatin biology and oncology research.
