Anti-SMPD1 Antibody

SMPD1 encodes acid sphingomyelinase, a lysosomal hydrolase that cleaves sphingomyelin to generate ceramide and phosphocholine. The enzyme sits at the center of sphingolipid metabolism and is widely studied for its role in membrane turnover, stress-induced apoptosis, and inflammatory signaling. Loss-of-function mutations in SMPD1 cause Niemann-Pick disease types A and B, and altered acid sphingomyelinase activity has been linked to atherosclerosis, metabolic disease, and viral entry mechanisms.

This unconjugated polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com was raised in rabbit against the SMPD1 target and is supplied as 100 µl in a vial of ready-to-use antibody. It cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples, making it suitable for both rodent model work and clinical specimen analysis. Validated applications include western blot for expression and protein-level studies and immunofluorescence (IF) for subcellular localization of SMPD1, including its lysosomal distribution.

Recommended uses include detection of endogenous SMPD1 in cell lysates and tissue homogenates by WB, confirmation of knockdown or overexpression efficiency, and co-localization studies with lysosomal markers such as LAMP1 by IF.
