Anti-Smad3 (M200) Antibody

This rabbit polyclonal antibody was raised against a synthetic peptide whose sequence starts at methionine 200 of human Smad3, an epitope that lies in the linker region between the MH1 DNA-binding and MH2 effector domains of the protein. Smad3 (Mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3) is a ~50 kDa receptor-regulated Smad that transduces canonical TGF-β and activin signals. Upon C-terminal phosphorylation by the type I receptor at the SSXS motif, Smad3 partners with the common-mediator Smad4 and accumulates in the nucleus to regulate transcription of fibrotic, proliferative, and inflammatory target genes.

Supplied by Antibodies.com as 50 µl of liquid at roughly 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.2, with 15 mM sodium azide added as preservative, the unconjugated reagent is configured for western blot detection of endogenous Smad3 in human, mouse, and rat samples. The polyclonal response offers broad epitope coverage, helping to capture multiple Smad3 species and post-translational variants that a single monoclonal antibody might miss.
