This polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets SLC25A12, the gene encoding Aralar1, a calcium-binding mitochondrial aspartate/glutamate carrier embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Aralar1 is a key component of the malate-aspartate shuttle, transferring reducing equivalents from the cytosol into the mitochondrial matrix, and it is highly expressed in neurons and skeletal muscle where sustained ATP demand makes NADH shuttling essential.

The reagent is raised in rabbit and supplied as an unconjugated whole antiserum fraction at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS), with 0.05% sodium azide added as a preservative at approximately pH 7.2. Each vial contains 100 µl of this stock, which is intended for use in western blot (WB) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows on human and rat tissue samples. The polyclonal format gives a broader epitope coverage than a monoclonal reagent, which researchers working on endogenous mitochondrial transporters often prefer when a single linear epitope may not be informative across denatured and fixed preparations.

SLC25A12 has been investigated in the context of autism spectrum disorder, early infantile epileptic encephalopathy, and mitochondrial bioenergetic dysfunction, making antibodies against it useful for neuroscience, mitochondrial metabolism, and neurodevelopmental disease research. For western blot, typical loading of reduced protein lysate from cultured cells or tissue is followed by detection with HRP-conjugated secondary reagents, while the IHC application makes the antibody suitable for fixed paraffin-embedded or frozen brain sections where carrier distribution between neuronal soma and neuropil can be compared. Users should aliquot on first use to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles and store protected from light at 2-8 degrees C for working stability, with longer term storage at -20 degrees C or below if the vial will not be consumed quickly.
