Raised in rabbit against the human SLC24A1 transporter, this unconjugated polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets a membrane protein better known as NCKX1. SLC24A1 is a sodium/calcium/potassium exchanger expressed predominantly in retinal rod photoreceptors, where it drives Ca2+ extrusion in exchange for Na+ and K+ during the recovery phase of phototransduction. Loss-of-function variants in the corresponding gene have been linked to congenital stationary night blindness, which is why the reagent is widely adopted in ophthalmology and neuroscience projects studying the outer retina.

Supplied as 100 µl of liquid at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (pH approx. 7.2) with 0.05% sodium azide added as a preservative. Validated applications include Western blot and immunocytochemistry, and the reagent has been tested for reactivity against human, mouse, and rat samples. Researchers typically aliquot the product on first use to limit freeze-thaw cycles, keep the working stock refrigerated, and store the stock vial frozen for long-term stability.

Because the target is a multi-pass transmembrane exchanger, the antibody is most often used on membrane-enriched lysates or fixed cell preparations that preserve rod outer segment architecture. Pairing it with appropriate blocking controls and secondary antibodies yields clean signal in both reducing SDS-PAGE systems and standard ICC workflows on immortalized retinal lines.
