The SHMT1 protein (Serine Hydroxymethyltransferase 1, cytoplasmic) is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of serine to glycine, simultaneously transferring a one-carbon unit to tetrahydrofolate to form 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate. This reaction feeds one-carbon units into folate metabolism, supporting nucleotide biosynthesis, methylation reactions, and redox homeostasis in proliferating cells.

This rabbit polyclonal antibody from Antibodies.com targets SHMT1 and has been verified in western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows. Reactivity is reported for human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting comparative studies across these three species. The unconjugated IgG format allows laboratories to pair the primary reagent with their preferred secondary antibody and detection chemistry.

Each vial contains 50 µl of antibody. For storage, keep the stock frozen at -20 °C in working aliquots and limit freeze-thaw cycles; a working dilution can be held briefly at 4 °C. Protect from light when handling fluorophore-conjugated secondary reagents downstream. Intended for research use only, not for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.

Investigators studying one-carbon metabolism, serine-glycine interconversion, folate cycle contributions to nucleotide synthesis, or SHMT1 expression in cancer metabolism and proliferation contexts will find this reagent relevant. The polyclonal nature of the reagent increases the likelihood of recognizing the target under the denaturing conditions used in western blot and the fixation conditions typical of immunohistochemistry.
