Surfactant Protein B (SFTPB) is a hydrophobic peptide essential for the assembly and surface tension–reducing function of pulmonary surfactant in alveolar type II cells. This rabbit polyclonal IgG antibody, supplied by Antibodies.com as an unconjugated reagent in a 200 µL vial, is validated for western blot detection of SFTPB in human, mouse, and rat tissue lysates. Investigators studying neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, inherited surfactant metabolism disorders, pulmonary alveolar proteinosis, and acute lung injury models rely on SFTPB immunoblots to assess protein maturation, processing of the 42 kDa propeptide into the mature hydrophobic peptide, and alveolar epithelial differentiation. The polyclonal format increases tolerance to minor epitope variation across species and post-translational modifications, supporting consistent band detection in whole-lung homogenates and isolated type II cell preparations. Storage at -20°C in working aliquots preserves antibody activity across multiple freeze-thaw cycles for ongoing western blot projects.
