Targets SETDB1 (SET Domain Bifurcated Lysine Methyltransferase 1), a chromatin-associated methyltransferase that deposits the H3K9me3 repressive mark on histone H3. This polyclonal reagent is provided at 1 mg/ml in PBS with 0.1% sodium azide and 50% glycerol as a cryoprotectant. Validated uses include Western blot detection of the ~180 kDa SETDB1 protein in cell and tissue lysates, and immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections. The antibody cross-reacts with human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting comparative studies across model organisms and human specimens. Researchers commonly apply it to investigate heterochromatin maintenance, silencing of endogenous retroviruses, and X-chromosome inactivation. The unconjugated format permits pairing with HRP, fluorophore, or biotin-labeled secondary antibodies depending on the detection chemistry chosen. Shipped as 100 µl of ready-to-use stock from Antibodies.com; storage at -20 °C in working aliquots helps preserve activity across repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and the high-concentration glycerol buffer protects against freeze-thaw damage during long-term use.
