This rabbit polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the alpha subunit of the sarcoglycan complex, a transmembrane glycoprotein component of the dystrophin-associated glycoprotein complex found at the sarcolemma of skeletal and cardiac muscle. The reagent is supplied as 100 µl of liquid at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, packaged in a vial.

Validated for Western blot (WB), immunocytochemistry (ICC), and immunoprecipitation (IP), the antibody detects Sarcoglycan-α in human, mouse, and rat samples, supporting studies of the dystrophin-associated complex in healthy tissue and in disease models. Because loss-of-function mutations in the SGCA gene cause limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2D, this reagent is used to evaluate whether α-sarcoglycan protein is properly expressed and localized at the muscle cell membrane in patient biopsies and animal models. The polyclonal format allows recognition of multiple epitopes on the target, which can help when probing truncated or partially degraded isoforms.

The unconjugated format leaves the antibody free for downstream conjugation to HRP, fluorophores, or biotin depending on the experimental design. The 0.05% sodium azide acts as a preservative, and aliquoting the vial upon first use is recommended to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles, with working aliquots kept refrigerated for short-term use and at -20°C for longer-term storage.
