RPS14 (Ribosomal Protein S14) is a component of the small 40S ribosomal subunit, where it contributes to ribosome assembly and translation of cellular mRNAs. Haploinsufficiency of this ribosomal protein is implicated in the molecular pathology of del(5q) myelodysplastic syndrome, where reduced RPS14 expression triggers ribosomal stress and p53 activation in erythroid progenitors.
