Rad51 is the central recombinase of homologous recombination, a high-fidelity DNA double-strand break repair pathway that is conserved from yeast to mammals. This rabbit polyclonal reagent from Antibodies.com binds an epitope mapping near residue L302 of human Rad51 and is suited to Western blot and immunohistochemistry workflows on human and mouse samples.

Supplied as 50 µl of unconjugated antibody at 1 mg/ml in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) with 0.05% sodium azide at approximately pH 7.2, the format is a single-use aliquot that is stable for short-term use when refrigerated at 4 °C; for longer storage, aliquot and keep frozen at -20 °C and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Sodium azide is included as a preservative, so the reagent is intended for research use only and is not validated for diagnostic procedures.

On Western blot the antibody is used to detect the expected ~37 kDa Rad51 band, while on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections it produces nuclear staining consistent with the protein's accumulation at sites of DNA damage and replication fork stalling. Because Rad51 expression and nuclear focus formation are routinely scored as markers of HR proficiency, this antibody is useful for studies of BRCA-deficient tumours, PARP inhibitor response, meiotic recombination, and genome stability in cell culture and in vivo models.
