The Antibodies.com rabbit polyclonal reagent targets quinoid dihydropteridine reductase (QDPR), a cytoplasmic enzyme best known for catalyzing the NADH-dependent reduction of quinonoid dihydrobiopterin back to tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4). Because BH4 is the obligatory cofactor for phenylalanine hydroxylase, tyrosine hydroxylase, and tryptophan hydroxylase, QDPR activity sits at a control point for phenylalanine catabolism and for the synthesis of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin in the central nervous system. Loss-of-function variants in the QDPR gene cause the rare autosomal recessive disorder known as dihydropteridine reductase deficiency, an atypical hyperphenylalaninemia that requires early diagnosis to prevent progressive neurological injury.

Validated for Western blot and immunohistochemistry on human samples, this unconjugated polyclonal IgG preparation is supplied at 100 µl and affinity-purified to support clean detection of endogenous reductase in tissue sections and lysates. Researchers working on inborn errors of pterin metabolism, on BH4 availability in Parkinsonian models, and on oxidative-stress conditions that deplete the reduced pterin pool, use this reagent to localize QDPR expression and track changes in steady-state protein levels. Standard antigen retrieval combined with appropriate HRP- or fluorophore-conjugated secondary antibodies gives reproducible cytoplasmic and perikaryal staining in brain and liver, where the enzyme is most abundant, as well as a clean band of the expected molecular weight in Western blot of cell lysates prepared from human-derived lines.
