Generated in rabbit, this polyclonal primary antibody from Antibodies.com targets the liver and red blood cell isoform of pyruvate kinase (PKLR), the glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate with concomitant ATP generation. Provided unconjugated in a 100 µl volume, the reagent is validated for Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and immunofluorescence detection of human pyruvate kinase.

Pyruvate kinase activity is essential for erythrocyte energy metabolism because red blood cells lack mitochondria and depend exclusively on glycolysis for ATP. Loss-of-function variants in PKLR are a recognized cause of hereditary pyruvate kinase deficiency and chronic hemolytic anemia, making isoform-specific detection valuable for studies of glycolytic enzyme regulation, erythrocyte and hepatic metabolism, and hematological disease mechanisms. The liver/RBC isoform recognized here is encoded by PKLR and is distinct from the M1 and M2 isoforms produced from the PKM gene.

Clonality is polyclonal, the host species is rabbit, and the conjugate is unconjugated, allowing flexible pairing with user-selected secondary detection reagents. Reactivity has been characterized against human pyruvate kinase, and the product is supplied for research use only.
